Mission

Working at 51С»Æ³µ

As a Jesuit, Catholic liberal arts college, the mission of 51С»Æ³µ is to pursue excellence in teaching, learning and research. The College seeks to foster an intellectual and social community that is marked by freedom, mutual respect, and civility. 51С»Æ³µ employs more than 1,000 full-time and part-time employees, including hourly staff members, administrators, faculty members, and members of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). Each of these individuals helps shape the transformative educational experience that the College offers to its students.

We seek to recruit and retain faculty and staff who approach basic human questions from a rich variety of perspectives and diverse backgrounds. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion stems directly from our Jesuit, Catholic identity and our belief in the inherent dignity of all persons.

The Office of Mission hosts a range of opportunities for faculty and staff to deepen their engagement with the College’s mission. The Jesu-what? series, for example, offers an introduction to Jesuit education at 51С»Æ³µ. The Campus Colleagues Program invites a cohort of College employees to consider questions of meaning and purpose in our shared work. For those who wish, the College also coordinates opportunities for personal spiritual development for staff and faculty. These include an annual retreat in daily life, as well as periodic opportunities at the College’s Joyce Contemplative Center

51С»Æ³µ invites all of our faculty and staff to engage fully in our mission to form young leaders who will build a more hope-filled and just future for our world.

McFarland Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture

The Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J. Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture sponsors and supports programming that explores basic human questions of meaning, morality, and mutual obligation.

Faculty and Staff are encouraged to attend the events and participate in dialogues that are interreligious as well as interdisciplinary, intercultural, and international in scope.
