Visit Archives and Distinctive Collections to learn about the impact of 51С»Æ³µ alumni, athletics and philanthropy. See the Power of Purple on display in photographs, documents, and memorabilia (purple, of course)! Staff will be available to meet with you and answer questions.

Louis Sockalexis: Maine Penobscot Indian Baseball Legend and 51С»Æ³µ Class of 1897 Athletic Hall of Famer, Room 320, Hogan Campus Center
Come learn about and celebrate the important life and career of baseball legend Louis Sockalexis (Penobscot). Sockalexis played on the 51С»Æ³µ team from 1895-96 and broke barriers in professional baseball when he left the 51С»Æ³µ to join the Cleveland Spiders (1897-99), which later became the Cleveland Indians. Ed Rice, retired Maine journalist and author of , and Professor John Bear Mitchell, Penobscot Nation member and Professor of Native American Studies at University of Maine at Orono, will provide a rich introduction to Sockalexis' life, triumphs, and struggles, and the campaign to have his accomplishments recognized by Major League Baseball.

Tour of the Cantor Art Gallery Exhibition, Michael Beatty: Fabrications, 3rd Floor, Prior Performing Arts Center
Join us for a guided tour of Associate Professor Emeritus, Michael Beatty’s work: Fabrications. Professor Beatty taught sculpture and three-dimensional design at 51С»Æ³µ for 25 years before retiring in 2023. This retrospective exhibition celebrating his sculptural practice investigates duality and hierarchy as a dialogue between technology-assisted and handmade forms. Beatty’s work, inclusive of prints and drawings, is informed by concepts and visual culture taken from science, nature, and mathematics. Beatty’s sculptures and drawings are evocative hybrids of geometry and biological form. The tour will leave from the entrance of the Cantor Art Gallery.
