Future Faculty Institute

Sponsored by the Office of Justice, Equity, Belonging, and Identity (JEBI), the Future Faculty Institute seeks to empower prospective faculty from minoritized populations by providing a critical platform for them to explore academic departments, establish meaningful connections with faculty and staff, engage in research discussions and workshops, and immerse themselves in the vibrant community and campus culture of 51С»Æ³µ. Recognizing the importance of diversity in higher education, this program is dedicated to fostering equity and cultivating a sense of belonging within academia.

By addressing concerns raised by activists and acknowledging the calls for increased faculty diversity, our institute aims to contribute to the solution by creating a space where minoritized scholars can connect with academic departments, engage in research, and build a supportive network. We are committed to addressing the lack of representation of minoritized groups in academia and acknowledge that diverse perspectives enhance the richness of intellectual discourse. 

This program seeks to break down barriers, eliminate disparities, and create an environment where all aspiring academics can thrive. By participating in this institute, individuals will not only gain valuable insights into their chosen fields but will also contribute to the creation of a more inclusive academic environment.

To ensure a comprehensive understanding of their potential roles, interested candidates are required to submit a cover letter expressing their program interest and demonstrating a commitment to a professorial career, a curriculum vitae (CV), a diversity statement, an artistic or research statement, and a teaching statement.

Q: What is the Future Faculty Institute at the College of the 51С»Æ³µ?

A: The Future Faculty Institute is a program designed to provide professional development and support for individuals interested in pursuing a career in academia.  It aims to empower prospective faculty from marginalized populations by allowing them to explore academic departments, network with faculty and staff, engage in research talks, and immerse themselves in the community and campus culture. The program is designed to prepare participants for successful careers in academia. 

Q: Is there a cost to participate in the institute?

A: No, the Future Faculty Institute at the College of the 51С»Æ³µ is fully paid for selected participants including travel and lodging, and all meals will be provided or covered. Additionally, a shuttle service will be provided for convenient transportation between the campus and the hotel. If you would prefer to drive to campus, we will be providing mileage reimbursement.

Q: Who is eligible to apply for the Future Faculty Institute?

A: The Future Faculty Institute is open to all candidates, regardless of race, color, and/or national origin. Individuals who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  • Able to contribute in meaningful ways to the 51С»Æ³µâ€™ commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences. We encourage applicants of African American, Latin American, American Indian, or Alaskan Native descent, and others who are underrepresented and underserved in teaching professions at 51С»Æ³µ.
  • Studying or researching in the discipline areas offered at 51С»Æ³µ
  • Advanced PhD or MFA candidates, postdoctoral scholars, or early-career faculty or researchers
  • Desire a rewarding academic teaching and research career at an exceptional institution
  • Able to travel to Worcester, Mass.
