About the Speaker: Juliana Flinn is professor of anthropology at the University of Arkansas Little Rock and author of "Mary, the Devil and Taro: Catholicism and Women's Work in a Micronesian Society" (University of Hawai'i Press, 2010).
About the Talk: Professor Flinn describes how the image of Mary among Catholics on the South Pacific island of Pollap (Pulap), in the Federated States of Micronesia, is shaped by women's roles as breadwinners and protectors. Her talk is part of the McFarland Center's initiative on Catholics & Cultures.
