Research

My research is in the field of experimental high energy X-ray astrophysics. High energy astrophysics studies the evolution of stars and galaxies by detecting and deciphering their emission of energetic particles and radiation. X-rays and gamma-rays are the most energetic forms of radiation. They are produced in unique environments such as supernova explosions and the immediate vicinity of black holes. The emissions can tell us what is happening in these extreme environments which are impossible to duplicate on Earth.Ìý

I am particularly interested in building semiconductor radiation detectors and using these efficient detectors to study how X-rays and gamma-rays are produced around black holes and neutron stars.Ìý

Many 51С»Æ³µ students have participated in the experimental and analysis work in my lab.
