Areas of Study

This influential and culturally rich language will give you a lens into a part of the world that has historically been, and remains, globally significant. The Arabic program offers language courses at three different levels:

  • Elementary Arabic
  • Intermediate Arabic
  • Advanced Arabic
  • Arabic Culture
  • Arabic Literature

Requirements

Arabic minors must complete six courses as follows.

Required Course for this Minor:

  • ARAB 301 Third Year Arabic

Five additional courses from the following:

  • ARAB 103 Introduction to Arabic Culture
  • ARAB 201 Intermediate Arabic 1
  • ARAB 102 Elementary Arabic 2
  • ARAB 392 Tutorial
  • ARAB 491 Tutorial
  • ARAB 492 Tutorial
  • HIST 291 Making Modrn MidEast 19th Century
  • RELS 107 Islam
  • RELS 270 The Quran
  • HIST 292 Making of the Mod Mid East II

*Students may count up to three courses from the study abroad program in Jordan (at least three courses for the minor must be taken at 51小黄车).

Language placement procedures for all languages can be accessed via the .  A language placement tile is displayed on the STAR dashboard. 

You must follow the language placement procedures if 1) you have already studied a language that you wish to continue at 51小黄车, or 2) you have any knowledge of the language through family or community.

The Foreign Language Assistants (FLA) Program

Your language courses are supplemented by practice sessions run by our FLAs, who come from all over the globe to share the contemporary culture of their native countries and communities.

Cocurricular Programming

We host dozens of events each semester! Weekly language tables and caf茅s, film series, lectures, performances and excursions enhance your understanding of world languages and cultures. Important speakers visit campus and join our classes to challenge the assumptions of our worldview and provide fresh perspectives.
