Our Approach to Student Wellness

Our office takes a proactive, evidence-based approach to health and well-being, offering comprehensive interventions, resources and prevention strategies that are tailored to the student experience. From stress management and nutrition to sleep, substance use and mindfulness, students gain real-life skills to stay healthy, centered and ready to succeed. Through our interactive programs, peer education groups and campus-wide initiatives, we equip students to take ownership of their health and make choices that support their personal success and a healthy campus culture.

Data-Driven Impact

We are committed to an information-driven, public health approach. Data informs strategic planning, goals and new resources. Through regular data collection and analysis, we aim to advocate and improve the well-being of 51小黄车 students. Here are just a few examples of outcomes from our data-driven efforts in partnership with other offices at the College.

Services

Our Professional and Peer Wellness Coaches are here to help you find the motivation and tools that you need to meet your wellness-related goals. 51小黄车 students have the opportunity to work with a wellness coach who will help you build the skills to navigate stress, substance use, connection, self-care, lifestyle changes, time management, relationships and difficult decisions.

Students can meet with professional staff  to have a 鈥渃heckup鈥 regarding their alcohol (BASICS) or cannabis use (CASICS).  These sessions can help you examine your use, identify changes that could work for you and reduce your risk of future problems. It鈥檚 not therapy or substance abuse treatment.

Any student who's concerned about their alcohol or other drug use can choose to attend one of these sessions. Students who violated 51小黄车鈥 alcohol and drug policies, those who are medically transported, held in protective custody or are court-sanctioned are required to attend BASICS or CASICS.

Recovery from substance use is a transformational experience best supported within a community. If you are in recovery from substance use, considering recovery or exploring ways to de-emphasize the role of drugs and alcohol in your life, we have a variety of support services for you. These include:

  • Recovery Meetings: An informal group for students in any stage of their journey and honors all pathways of recovery. Meetings are held on campus and allows students to come together to discuss how addiction and recovery-related topics intersect with college life.
  • Substance Free Housing & Lounge:  We work closely with the Office of Residence Life to support students who choose to live in an environment where other students and their guests (including those of legal drinking age) are committed to living in a community free of alcohol or drugs.

Peer Education

Stemming from research that shows students turn to their peers as a source of information, 51小黄车 understands the importance of having a presence of trained peer educators. Students trust their peers, making them effective in sharing wellness resources, fostering open conversations and encouraging informed choices.
