Predoctoral Practicum Training Program

The College of the 51小黄车 Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a nine-month Predoctoral Practicum Training Program for clinical or counseling psychology doctoral students.

The applicants are expected to have completed, at minimum, one full year of a clinical practicum placement that was supervised by a licensed psychologist through a clinical or counseling psychology doctoral program prior to starting at our center.

Practicum students are on-site 20 hours per week and will have the opportunity to work with a diverse population of young adults who manifest the full spectrum of psychological and psychiatric problems. Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. is a mandatory training day and practicum students must be on-site during this time.

CAPS is pleased to be able to offer a stipend of approximately $6,000 for each practicum student for the 2025-2026 training year.

What to Expect

Practicum students can expect to have a well-rounded clinical training experience in college mental health supported by weekly individual supervision (2 hours), a weekly Training Block which includes seminars on diversity and other clinical issues and case discussion (2 hours). During the first two weeks of the practicum, students will receive more focused training in the basic operations of the CAPS.

Important Dates

The externship begins in mid-August and ends in late May.

The usual recruitment cycle begins in late-fall and application materials are welcome in early December.

Although it varies by year and weather conditions, we attempt to hold interviews in January and early February. Notifications can be made as early as January and as late as March.

However, if you are invited for an interview it will likely take place the week of January 13th - 17th of 2025.

Due to the high number of applicants we receive, not every applicant will be invited for an on-campus interview.  Please make sure to review the minimum criteria prior to submitting an application.  Qualified and interested candidates should submit the following application materials to the attention of Dr. Adriana DiPasquale either electronically or via post:

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • 3 letters of reference
    • At least one of three letters of reference must be from a direct, on-site supervisor (licensed psychologist) of your clinical work

This practicum site does not currently participate in the Boston Area Practicum Training Collaborative (PTC) notification process.
