A Culture of Inquiry

The College is dedicated to supporting and facilitating faculty research opportunities:

  • Every pre-tenure faculty member is given a one-semester research leave to pursue a fully paid period of research.
  • Every tenured faculty member is offered a sabbatical leave every seven years.
  • Many faculty members recruit students to contribute to their research programs, which provides research assistance for the faculty, invaluable learning opportunities for the students, and the opportunity to forge meaningful faculty-student professional relationships beyond the classroom.
  • Faculty receive support to pursue external funding for their research, including from federal agencies, private foundations, corporations, professional organizations, and other sources.

Available Resources

All tenure-line faculty have an annual research and professional development account that supports research travel, publication costs, professional memberships, and other professional development activities.

The Provost鈥檚 Supplemental Research Fund provides faculty with additional support for scholarly activity and professional development upon application.

The Committee on Faculty Scholarship is an elected faculty group that conducts peer reviews of internal applications for research grants, faculty fellowships, and other research awards.

The Provost鈥檚 Office also offers additional internal funding opportunities to support faculty scholarship and professional development. Examples of these opportunities include Rapid Response, Visiting Speaker Series and Distinguished Visiting Practitioner Grants.
